Frequently Asked Questions

How deep should T-posts be driven into the ground?

T-posts should be driven to a depth of 45-60cm (18-24") for standard fencing. In loose or sandy soil, drive deeper (60-75cm). The spade plate should be fully below ground level to provide maximum lateral stability.

What weight T-post do I need?

For cattle and livestock fencing, 1.33 lb/ft (2.0 kg/m) posts are standard. For heavy-duty or high-tensile fencing, use 1.5-1.75 lb/ft (2.2-2.6 kg/m). For garden and light fencing, 1.25 lb/ft (1.9 kg/m) is sufficient.

Do I need a post driver to install T-posts?

Yes, a manual post driver (slide hammer) is the standard tool for T-post installation. For large projects, hydraulic post drivers can be used. The tapered tip and spade plate allow the post to be driven with moderate force.

Can T-posts be reused?

Yes, T-posts can be extracted and reused multiple times. Use a post puller or lever tool to extract. Green painted posts may show paint wear after extraction but remain structurally sound. Galvanized posts maintain better appearance through multiple installations.
